The Pioneer is a two bedroom, 1200 sq. ft. version and follows the more compact Ranger, Trapper and award-winning Cowboy.

As with all the variations, the Pioneer is prefab, shipped flat pack and features Jones' distinctive and refined aesthetic.

Western Living 2010 Designers of the Year

Western Living has just published its 2010 Designers of the Year issue.

Amongst the winners are Marc Boutin (Architect of the Year), Victoria Wood (Landscape Designer of the Year) and Izm (Furniture Designer of the Year).

Special mention goes to D'Arcy Jones (shown above) as the inaugural winner of the Arthur Erickson Award which celebrates the work of an emerging architect or designer.

Twenty + Change

Twenty + Change is now showing at the main gallery at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

The exhibition focuses on emerging Canadian architectural talent and includes drawing, photos and models.

Among the 20+ firms profiled are AGATHOM Co., from Toronto and D'Arcy Jones Design and MGB Architecture + Design from Vancouver.

The show runs until September 3, 2010 and is an excellent chance to check out new developments in Canadian architecture.

Canadian Wallpaper

Wallpaper magazine's recent Fab 40 issue spotlights ten destinations across the globe and forty favourite things from each place.

Vancouver has a number of entries under the Canadian banner, including Douglas Coupland's art, the Winter Olympics and (!) the PNE's wooden rollercoaster.

Architecturally the city is represented by Form + Forest and D'Arcy Jones Design as well as Level Design. Form + Forest's line of cabins extends Jones' design sensibility to prefab structures that would be perfectly at home on that beautiful Gulf Islands property...

D'Arcy Jones Design

Finally some substance in the Globe & Mail's Real Estate section.

Adele Weder contributes a profile on Vancouver's D'Arcy Jones Design. The article focuses on Jones' residential work and his desire to craft smaller, considered and finely detailed spaces rather than the standard resale-driven Vancouver monster home.

It's a well-deserved spotlight on Jones and yet another illuminating article on the West Coast modernist renaissance by Weder.

Form & Forest

D'Arcy Jones Design has created a line of cabins available through Form & Forest - a new company building the flat-pack pre-fab recreational dwellings.

The line launches February 19, 2009 and promises to carry over Jones' modernist sensibility to a satisfyingly reduced scale. In the meantime check out the blog for sneak previews of the cabins and other musings from the the Form & Forest folks.

Gingerbread Modern

Creative Room and Vancouver Special have launched a sweet competition: re-imagining the gingerbread house. 

A broad cross-section of Vancouver architects and designers have translated the traditional gingerbread house into modern form, including Busby, Perkins & Will, D'Arcy Jones Design, UBC Sala and Bricault Design.  

The competition will be judged by Patricia Patkau, Ken Lum and Christina Ritchie and takes place at Vancouver Special on November 25 at 7pm. Houses are currently up for auction, with proceeds to support Pivot Legal Society.
