White Show Closing Weekend

This weekend is the last chance to take in the Dan White exhibition at the Museum of Vancouver.

The engaging show closes Sunday March 23rd after a solid run exploring the Vancouver architect's low-key but prolific career.

CoMo Screening

The Museum of Vancouver is screening Coast Modern this Sunday, November 24th at 2pm.

Directors Gavin Froome and Michael Bernard will be in attendance for a post-screening Q+A and discussion.

The film is being shown as part of the Design Sundays at MOV, in conjunction with the Dan White exhibit, Play House: The Architecture of Daniel Evan White

It's a great opportunity to take in two essential West Coast documents.

Daniel Evan White

Dan White is the subject of an upcoming exhibition this fall at the Museum of Vancouver.

The show runs from October 2013-March 2014 and is guest curated by Greg Johnson and Martin Lewis with Viviane Gosselin of the Museum of Vancouver.

In the meantime, check out the tumblr site dedicated to White's architecture - primarily late modern residential with a strong linear quality and close connection to site.

White's is a unique body of work that hasn't received its due, perhaps because his career blossomed in the shadow of the initial wave of West Coast Modern architects or perhaps because of his focus on the residential sphere.

Whatever the reason, the exhibition looks to reassess a quiet but important West Coast legacy.

P4A #5

The fifth installment of Party For Architects is lined up for March 3, 2011.

Gair Williamson and Chris Woodford from Gair Williamson Architects are the featured speakers. GWA's recent projects include Judas Goat, the Paris Annex and The Keefer (below).

The event has reverted back to the more intimate confines of Vancouver Special (from the MOV) and promises to be a great evening.

Party For Architects: Summer

The latest Party For Architects is lined up for Thursday, July 15.

For the summer edition the location has shifted from Vancouver Special to Museum of Vancouver. The MOV, which has done a great job re-engaging with the cultural sector in the city, should be a good fit for the PFA.

As with past events, the evening will feature guest speakers, music and excellent conversation about our built environment. On the bill are Nick Sully and Alec Smith of Shape Architecture and dj Lucas.

As always, it's graciously hosted by Julian Carnrite, Mitra Mansour, Anne Pearson and Anant Topiwala. Things get underway at 7pm.
