P4A #6

Guest speaker Omer Arbel will join hosts Anant Topiwala, Anne Pearson and Christine Wang for the sixth edition of Party For Architects.

The action happens Thursday, August 25th at Vancouver Special and should be a great night of Peroni-fueled discussion about our built environment.

The fifth installment of Party For Architects is lined up for March 3, 2011.

Gair Williamson and Chris Woodford from Gair Williamson Architects are the featured speakers. GWA's recent projects include Judas Goat, the Paris Annex and The Keefer (below).

Party For Architects: Summer

The latest Party For Architects is lined up for Thursday, July 15.

For the summer edition the location has shifted from Vancouver Special to Museum of Vancouver. The MOV, which has done a great job re-engaging with the cultural sector in the city, should be a good fit for the PFA.

As with past events, the evening will feature guest speakers, music and excellent conversation about our built environment. On the bill are Nick Sully and Alec Smith of Shape Architecture and dj Lucas.

As always, it's graciously hosted by Julian Carnrite, Mitra Mansour, Anne Pearson and Anant Topiwala. Things get underway at 7pm.

Party For Architects

The second Party For Architects will take place this Thursday November 19 at Vancouver Special on Main Street.

If the previous event- which featured a talk by D'Arcy Jones on the essence of stairs- is any indication it should be a excellent night. The upcoming evening will include a talk by Clinton Cuddington of Measure Architecture, a dj, drinks and of course archispeak.

The evening runs from 6-9pm and is hosted by Julian Carnrite, Mitra Mansour, Anne Pearson and Anant Topiwala.

Gingerbread Modern

Creative Room and Vancouver Special have launched a sweet competition: re-imagining the gingerbread house.

A broad cross-section of Vancouver architects and designers have translated the traditional gingerbread house into modern form, including Busby, Perkins & Will, D'Arcy Jones Design, UBC Sala and Bricault Design.

The competition will be judged by Patricia Patkau, Ken Lum and Christina Ritchie and takes place at Vancouver Special on November 25 at 7pm. Houses are currently up for auction, with proceeds to support Pivot Legal Society.

Information and photos, including bidding forms can be found here and the ten gingerbread houses can be viewed in person at Vancouver Special, 3612 Main Street, Vancouver.

Special mention to Bricault Design (who make excellent use of candied textures) and D'Arcy Jones Design (whose entry is a beautifully reduced West Coast Modern in the woods).
