CoMo Screening

The Museum of Vancouver is screening Coast Modern this Sunday, November 24th at 2pm. 

Directors Gavin Froome and Michael Bernard will be in attendance for a post-screening Q+A and discussion.

The film is being shown as part of the Design Sundays at MOV, in conjunction with the Dan White exhibit, Play House: The Architecture of Daniel Evan White. 

It's a great opportunity to take in two essential West Coast documents.

CoMo at Vancity

Vancouver Special + 'Party For Architects' are presenting a special screening of Coast Modern at the Vancity Theatre on July 7.

Directors Gavin Froome and Mike Bernard will be in attendance.

Coast Modern Premiere

Coast Modern will premiere at the DOXA Festival in Vancouver on May 8, 2012.

Coast Modern Soiree

Coast Modern is throwing a party to raise finishing funds for their film. Check out the trailers for Gavin Froome's and Michael Bernard's comprehensive and vibrant study of West Coast Modernist architecture.

The action takes place on July 28 at Ouno Design's space in Strathcona. Oysters, booze and music will be on hand, as well as the excellent CoMo posters by Byron O'Neill and BUILD.

Tickets are $10 (with drink) or $100 (with poster + drink) and can be purchased online.

West Coast Blogging

Two new blogs have been added to the blogroll: Coast Modern and Architecture Wanted. Both focus on architecture of the West Coast.

Coast Modern is based around an upcoming film that Gavin Froome and Michael Bernard have been quietly putting together over the last year or so. They've amassed what promises to be a treasure trove of footage chronicling the modern movement along the West Coast– from California to British Columbia. 

The film, currently being edited, is based around interviews with a broad range of subjects (this writer included), from local luminaries like Barry Downs and Fred Hollingsworth to California sons Dion Neutra and photographer Julius Shulman. Froome and Bernard have also filmed an inspired range of the architecture itself, mostly houses related to the interviewees, to round out the film.

Architecture Wanted is a blog focusing on matters a little closer at hand, chronicling architecture and civic issues in Vancouver. With a solid appreciation for our urban environment, it's an excellent source of happenings in the city.
